Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach is a stunning coastal haven renowned for its unique charm and natural beauty. Famous for its colony of endangered African penguins, the beach offers visitors an extraordinary opportunity to observe these charismatic birds in their natural habitat. The sheltered coves, lined with large granite boulders that give the beach its name, create tranquil swimming spots with crystal-clear waters. A ticket for the Penguin Viewing Promenade also grants access to the public beach. A valid form of identification is required, and international visitors pay a higher fee, making it especially important for locals to bring ID.

Check out the Stoked To Travel blog for more in-depth tips on the best way to experience Boulders Beach.

Roam Tips:

  • For those close-up penguin experiences and pictures, be prepared to wade through the water and climb under and over some boulders from the beach.
  • Low tide is the best time to go, with more shore to set up on and less water to wade through to get personal with the penguins. However, please remember that you cannot touch the penguins and that they are an endangered species.
  • Make sure to look out for penguins in the parking bays, as there have been some instances of penguins being hit by cars.
